Summary

A probable tree enclosure ring or tree clump is visible as a banked circular earthwork or tree ring at Ellen Clump, Lytchett Matravers, on a 1947 aerial photograph. The feature is first documented and named as Ellen Clump on the OS 2nd Edition 1:2500 map, suggesting the feature may be later 19th to early 20th century in origin. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description

A probable tree enclosure ring or tree clump is visible as a banked and tree-topped 82m in diameter circular earthwork or tree ring at Ellen Clump, Lytchett Matravers, on a 1947 aerial photograph [1]. The feature is first documented and named as Ellen Clump on the OS 2nd Edition 1:2500 map, suggesting the feature may be later 19th to early 20th century in origin [2]. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project. The feature is below tree cover and not visible on 2021 APGB imagery, although an outline of the tree ring may be discerned [3].
