Summary

A bronze buckle, probably of Medieval date (though previously published in a list of "Celtic and Roman bronze objects") was found in a field at Gussage St Michael prior to 1900. It is now in the Dorset Museum, Dorchester.

Full Description

A bronze buckle, found in field 53 at Gussage St Michael, is in the Dorset Museum. It is 1 3/4 inches square and the bow is hinged to the bar by interlacing eyes. There appear to have been three pins or prongs. It is listed under Celtic and Roman bronze objects (No. Br.125a). <1>

Field 53 is centred at ST 98251314 on O.S. 1:2500. The buckle is classified as "probably Medieval" by Col. Drew <2.1>. (see ST 91 SW 32 for a similar buckle, which is also probably Medieval.) <2>
