Full Description
A post medieval quarry to the west of Garth Close, Sturminster Marshall, is visible as an earthwork on an aerial photograph dated 1945, although the extent of the feature is uncertain [1]. The feature is documented as being a quarry within Limekiln Coppice on the OS 1st Edition map and remains a feature on the OS a5 Epoch map dated 1955 [2, 3]. Environment Agency lidar imagery shows the feature as a larger depression than that indicated on historic mapping and the 1945 aerial photograph [4]. It was digitally plotted using the 1945 source during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
