Full Description
A possible post medieval extractive pit to the south of Henbury House, Sturminster Marshall, is visible as an earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery [1, 2]. The feature is shown but not named on the OS 1st to 3rd Edition maps [3]. The OS a5 Epoch map dated 1955 shows the feature as a pond, but this may be a later re-purpose as the feature is within an area of intensive sand, gravel and clay extraction [4]. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
