Summary

A post medieval extractive pit and a rectangular structure, possibly a brick kiln, at Cherrett's Clump, Corfe Mullen, are visible as an earthwork and ruined structure on 1940s aerial photographs. A brickworks is documented on the OS 1st Edition map and an OS map dating to 1955 documents the extractive pit as a disused clay pit. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description

A post medieval extractive pit and a rectangular structure, possibly a brick kiln, at Cherrett's Clump, Corfe Mullen, are visible as an earthwork and ruined structure on 1940s aerial photographs [1]. A brickworks is documented on the OS 1st Edition map, showing a kiln located slioghtly southwest of the structure visible in 1948 [2]. An OS map dating to 1955 documents the extractive pit as a disused clay pit and the structure visible on the 1948 aerial photograph as a 'ruin' [3]. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project. The features are no longer visible on 2021 APGB imagery.
