Full Description
Two post medieval extractive pits to the southeast of Warmwell Farm, Lytchett Matravers, are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs [1,2]. The features are located within a southwest to northeast running seam of sand, clay and gravels. Some additional pits within the vicinity are documented on the OS 1st Edition map and are variously clay, sand, gravel or chalk pits, reflecting the variable geology of the area. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project. The features are still visible as cropmarks on 2021 APGB imagery [3].
