Full Description
Three post medieval extractive pits in a field to the south of Warmwell Farm, Lytchett Matravers, are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs [1]. The features are located within a southwest to northeast running seam of sand, clay and gravels. Some additional pits within the vicinity are documented on the OS 1st Edition map and are variously clay, sand, gravel or chalk pits, reflecting the variable geology of the area. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project. The featurs are still visible as earthworks on 2001 Google Earth imagery [2].
