Full Description
Two post medieval extractive pits to the south of Crumpet's Farm, Sturminster Marshall, are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs and on Environment Agency lidar imagery [1-3]. The pits follow a southwest to northeast running seam of sand, clay and gravels. Some additional pits within the vicinity are documented on the OS 1st Edition map and are variously clay, sand, gravel or chalk pits, reflecting the variable geology of the area. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
