Full Description

A bowl barrow has been recorded as a cropmark on air photographs. Part of a small group on Thickthorn Down, it is located just to the north east of bowl barrow ST 91 SE 46 [Note: ie ST 91 SE 46c], and immediately south of the linear feature ST 91 SE 1. It was noted by RCHME but not numbered separately, simply being described within the gazetteer entry for Tarrant Hinton 51 (ST 91 SE 46). No separate grid reference was assigned to it. Grinsell listed it as Tarrant Hinton 27a, and located it to ST 96141287, though it is unclear if this is based on the air photograph evidence or is merely a guesstimate. Alternatively it may be the barrow previously recorded by the Ordnance Survey at ST 96171293 ("D" in ST 91 SE 46). The most recent examination of the cropmark evidence, as published in the RCHME's "Bokerley Dyke" volume, does not depict this barrow on the AP transcription, but it appears to be visible on an air photograph published in the same volume. [NB this barrow was formerly mentioned as part of ST 91 SE 46.]
