Full Description
Part of a probable Medieval coppice boundary and hollow way are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs taken in 1988, once the overlying trees were removed. The site comprises a ditch measuring between 3m and 11m wide which forms what appears to be the eastern half of a curvilinear enclosure centred at ST 9592 0823 that measures circa 235m long by 195m wide; the western half of the possible enclosure is suggested by teh extent of the trees. A section of wood bank flanks the inside of the northern ditch and a linear ditch extends to the east of the enclosure which could be part of the medieval and later hollow way known as Weekly Lane that extends to the north-west. The enclosure may have defined part of Weekley coppice on Monkton common. <1>
