Full Description
A First World War practice trench is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1947 but has subsequently been filled in. The site is centred at ST 9310 0833 and comprises a single narrow ditch which extends roughly south-west / north-east in a double arc over a total length of 39m. The northernmost arc is flanked by a narrow bank to the west.
The trench is one of several that were probably dug as training exercises by the Royal Naval Division who were stationed at Blandford Camp from 1915 to 1918. The trench has been filled in on aerial photographs taken in 1982. <1>
