Summary

A Second World War bombing range marker is visible as a white chalk figure on aerial photographs taken in 1943, but has subsequently been ploughed out. The site is centred at ST 9588 1116 and comprises a cross shape which measures 18m across. Several other chalk bombing range markers are dispersed over Launceston Common and are accompanied by a large number of circular bomb craters. The site had been destroyed by ploughing on aerial photographs taken in 1953.

Full Description

A Second World War bombing range marker is visible as a white chalk figure on aerial photographs taken in 1943, but has subsequently been ploughed out. The site is centred at ST 9588 1116 and comprises a cross shape which measures 18m across.

Several other chalk bombing range markers are dispersed over Launceston Common and are accompanied by a large number of circular bomb craters (see Associated Monuments). The site had been destroyed by ploughing on aerial photographs taken in 1953. <1-2>
