Monument record MDO4534 - Bowl Barrow on Bell Hill, Okeford Fitzpaine

A bowl barrow on the summit of Bell Hill. In 1970 this monument was reported as being around 30 feet in diameter with a mound one foot high, and heavily ploughed. The centre of the mound has been dug into, presumably in the course of antiquarian investigation. The barrow is visible as an earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs and very faintly still on Environment Agency lidar imagery and was digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project.

Round barrows :- (A) Bowl (80320872), lies on the almost flat summit of Bell Hill; its centre has been dug into and it has been heavily ploughed. Diam. 30 ft. ht. 1 ft.

The barrow is visible as an earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs and very faintly still on Environment Agency lidar imagery and was digitally plotted during the Mid Dorset Downs AIM project (RAF 1947; EA 2018).
