Full Description
A Second World War bombing range marker is visible as a white chalk figure on aerial photographs taken in 1947 but has subsequently been ploughed out. The site comprises a diamond shape with a line extending for up to 33m from each corner. The diamond is centred at ST 9557 1043 and measures 12m by 17m at its widest points, with the long axis orientated roughly north-west / south-east.
Several other chalk bombing range markers are dispersed over Launceston Common and are accompanied by a large number of circular bomb craters (see Associated Monuments). The site had been destroyed by ploughing on aerial photographs taken in 1953. <1-2>
