Monument record MDO45299 - Field system, Tarrant Hinton

Please read our .

Summary

A later Prehistoric and / or Roman field system, of the form often referred to as a "Celtic" field system, is visible as soilmarks on aerial photographs. The site comprises assorted linear banks and ditches that form a pattern of conjoined but incomplete rectangular enclosures, which are probably fields. The field system extends over an area that measures a maximum of 820m east to west by 480m wide, although they continue to the south-west, beyond the project area. The banks and ditches appear to define long rectangular fields measuring between 40m and 60m wide. The fields share the WNW / ESE orientation of similar "Celtic" field systems identified in the area which suggests they may once have joined together into a single field system.
