Summary

St Martins Church, possibly first mentioned in the early 14th century survived until circa 1800 as a barn. Its churchyard, on the north, is now a yard. No trace of the building survives.

Full Description

St. Martin's Church mentioned in the Valor of 1534 and in the Nona Rolls. List of Rectors goes from 1334 to 1526.

The church was situated "at the S. corner of Hert or Angle Lane, into which looked the east window, whose upper part remained in 1804. In Bacon's "Liber Regis" it is called 'destructa'. Under the Earl of Pembroke's will in 1650 the moiety of a barn, in the late parish of St. Martin, called St. Martins Church was sold together with the adjoining graveyard. <1>

The site is occupied by a modern store and there is no trace of an earlier structure. <3>
