Full Description
A probable Bronze Age round barrow is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs. The site is centred at ST 9516 0805 and is defined by a single ring ditch which encloses a circular area measuring 20m in diameter, with no visible entrances.
The size and shape of the enclosure suggest that it could be the plough levelled remains of a Bronze Age round barrow, several other examples of which are situated along the lower contours immediately east of the River Tarrant (eg ST 90 NW 149; ST 90 NE 60 / UIDs: 1479020; 1479027). There is no sign of any barrow mound or other internal feature such as a funerary deposit. <1> <2>
A sub-circular ring ditch is visible to the east of Tarrant Monkton as a cropmark on aerial photographs <2>. The feature is approximately 25m in diameter and is considered likely to be the outer ditch around a plough levelled Bronze Age round barrow. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
