Full Description
(Area Centred SY 51709617). A mutilated cross which stood in the centre of the village at the beginning of the 19th century had been destroyed by 1863. <1>
The remains are described in some notes written in 1780:- "The remains of a large cross. The shaft, which seems to have been of considerable height, has been taken down though the base continues in its proper place. The ascent was by four steps but the whole is very ruinous." <2>
The area was perambulated but no trace of the cross was found. Enquiries were made but no particular spot or area was known as "the cross". There is no resident clergyman and tithe maps were not obtained. <3>
