A post medieval chalk pit is visible to the east of Tarrant Monkton as an earthwork and cropmark on aerial photographs and current Environment Agency lidar imagery. The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description

A probable Post Medieval chalk pit is visible as a soilmark on aerial photographs. The site is centred at ST 9587 0923 and comprises a linear quarry and an associated spoil heap. The quarry measures a maximum of 58m long by up to 13m wide and is orientated west / east. The spoil heap extends along the northern side and is slightly narrower. <1>

A post medieval chalk pit is visible to the east of Tarrant Monkton as an earthwork and cropmark on aerial photographs and current Environment Agency lidar imagery <2-4>. The feature comprises an elongated oval pit 42m long by 19m wide. The presence of a possible spoil heap is recorded uncer NRHE Hob UID 1479144 but this may be alternatively part of a linear bank associated with a later prehistoric field system (MDO45135). The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
