Full Description
A concentration of small pit-like features are visible to the east of Tarrant Monkton as cropmarks on an aerial photograph dated 2015 [1]. The features extend over an area of more than 550m by330m, with a concentration towards the southwestern end of the field in which they lie, and some outlying to the north, east and west. An area of possible Iron Age to Roman settlement (MDOs 45140-45142 and MDO45145; 45146) is also recorded at this location.
The features are of uncertain origin but may be later prehistoric pits, perhaps associated with the area of settlement - or alternatively they may be small post medieval chalk pits or of natural geological origin. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
