Full Description
Three sides of a possible rectangular enclosure of unknown date were recorded as cropmarks on 2015 Historic England oblique aerial photographs. They are centred at ST 9557 0892. <1>
A double rectilinear cropmark to the east of Tarrant Monkton is visible on an aerial photograph dated 2015 <2>. The feature comprises a three sided rectilinear cropmark which measures approximately 42m long by 30m deep. The east side, if there is one, is not visible. On the north side of the feature two further linear ditch sections may form part of another small adjoining enclosure approximately 30m by 30m in size.
The features may be rectilinear enclosures of later prehistoric origin, possibly of Iron Age to Roman date and potentially associated with further features to the north and east, which may represent an area of later prehistoric to Roman settlement (MDOs 45140 and 45142). The southernmost feature is also recorded under NRHE Hob UID 1622778.
The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
