Full Description

A possible later Prehistoric or Roman trackway is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. The site is centred at ST 9536 0904 and comprises two slightly sinuous narrow ditches which extend north / south for 110m and are roughly parallel. The ditches are between 8m and 15m apart and may define a trackway. Alternatively, they could be geological. <1>

Linear ditched features to the east of Tarrant Monkton are visible as cropmarks on an aerial photograph dated 1980 <2>. The features comprise a series of linear ditches on a south-north alignment, including a double ditched feature recorded under NRHE Hob UID 1479214. Linear ditches to the north and south of the group, on an east-west alignment, may also be associated features. The features may be trackways and/or field boundaries of later prehistoric origin, possibly associated with a group of small rectilinear enclosures and fragments of likely field boundaries to the east (MDOs 45140-45142) that may indicate a focus of later prehistoric settlement, potetnially of Iron Age to Roman date.

The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
