Full Description

A 17thc. house is said to have been built or rebuilt by James BURNARD, but was much altered in the 18thc. Over a
doorway in the N. wing is a stone inscribed "I and M.B. 1757" (for James BURT and his wife). In the same wall is a reset original 4-light window [Similar information]. <1> <3>

The house is still known as HATCHLANDS. It is said to have been built in the 17th C. The south wing was added in 1758 and the North wing about 70 years ago. Description T2 correct. The window and datestone referred to are in the South wall of the East wing. This wing is of coarse stone rubble while the remainder of the house is stucco faced. All other windows, roof etc are modern. The building is well preserved and is a private residence. <4>
