Full Description
This site of a brewery founded by the Fowler (1) or Flew family (2) in 1742. In 1824 it was acquired by William Devenish and by 1889 was registered as J.A Devenish Company Ltd. During the early and mid 20th century it acquired a number of small breweries operating in Devon, Cornwall and Dorset including the neighbouring Hope Brewery, run by John Groves and Sons, in Hope Square, Weymouth. <1-2>
The current building is late 18th or early 19th century in date, has a double depth plan and originally had two storeys. <2>
