Summary

Practice trenches comprising numerous sections of irregular and zig zag bank and ditches are visible within and around the internal perimeter of Blandford Camp on 1940s aerial photographs. The features are considered likely to be of First World War date, although may include some Second World War earthworks or re-use. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description

Practice trenches comprising numerous sections of irregular and zig zag bank and ditches are visible within and around the internal perimeter of Blandford Camp on 1940s aerial photographs [1-10] . The features are considered likely to be of First World War date, although may include some Second World War earthworks or Second World War re-use. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project. Some features remain visible on current lidar imagery, although most are lost beneath the redevelopment of Blandford Camp.
