Monument record MDO44891 - Field system on the slopes of Crockerton Hill and Pentridge Hill, Cranborne

A "Celtic" field system on the slopes of Crockerton Hill and Pentridge Hill, part of a larger, extensive complex of fields visible largely as cropmarks on air photographs.

Field systems in the Dorset Cursus/Bokerley Dyke area have been transcribed from air photo evidence for the RCHME's "Bokerley Dyke" volume (see Fig 1). This shows a more extensive and complex distribution of fields across the chalk downs than was evident during work on the earlier Dorset Inventory. Some of the "groups" identified by RCHME in the latter volume are no longer so clearly defined and distinct. <3>
