Summary

Traces of a field system on Wyke Down visible on air photographs. No traces were visible on the ground during Ordnance Survey field investigation in the 1950s.

Full Description

(Centred SU 004159) Pattern of field system, presumed Iron Age/Romano-British, visible on air photographs 58/RAF/1090 Nos 0146-7 (20.4.53). No remains can be found on the ground. <1-2>

The 'Celtic' fields do not appear to have intruded on the concentration of barrows on Wyke Down. (Part of a group of fields covering the low ridge between the Gussage Brook and the headwaters of the River Allen). <3>
