Full Description

The manor of Wotton Abbas, alias Abbots Wotton, was "Wideton" in Domesday. In the time of Elizabeth I it passed, with the ancient mansion house, to William Every. The Elizabethan manor- house was demolished about 1858. <1>

An outbuilding at lower Abbot's Wootton Farm, of two storeys with exposed ceiling beams, dates from circa 1700. <3>

The modern house stands on the same site as the old one and incorporates some of the material from it, including the coat- of-arms over the porch. <4>
