Full Description

Part of the Roman road from Badbury Rings to Kingston Deverill (Linear 511 / UID: 1054628) is visible as soilmarks on aerial photographs. The site is centred at ST 9493 0870 and comprises a linear alignment of ten banks or stretches of compacted ground that extend for a total length of 905m, between ST 9478 0914 and ST 9505 0828. The banks each measure between 13m and 210m long and between 9m and 19m wide. The northernmost are flanked by narrow drainage ditches. The course of the road immediately to the north is represented in the pattern of extant field boundaries, beyond which other sections are visible on aerial photographs (see ST 90 NW 150 & ST 91 SW 132 / UIDs: 1479165 & 1481291).
