Full Description
Part of a probably Medieval and Post Medieval trackway is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. The site is centred at ST 9470 0921 and comprises five sections of narrow ditch which are roughly aligned and extend in a slight arc east / west over a combined distance of 234m, between ST 9458 0921 and ST 9481 0920. Their eastern end joins Turner's Lane, which could suggest that they represent an earlier form of this routeway, perhaps together with a several fragmentary ditches aligned to the east (see ST 90 NE 80 / UID: 1479209). <1-2>
Curvilinear ditched features are visible as cropmarks at Tarrant Launceston on a 1982 aerial photograph <1>. The features may be a trackway of probable medieval to post medieval date. The features are also recorded under NRHE Hob UID 1479219 which speculates whether it was an early form of the routeway now comprising Turners Lane. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
