Summary

An Iron Age quarter stater reported as being found in a camp in the parish of Broadwindsor in 1882. Possibly the most likely monument to be the camp is Lewesdon Hill, although Pilsdon Pen and Waddon Hill have also been suggested.

Full Description

(ST 4302) I.A. coin found 'in a camp in the parish of Broadwindsor, Dorset in 1882'. Formerly in the colln. Of Mr Powlesland, then in that of Mr. F Latchmore of Hitchin. Evans type M:13, uninscribed <AR> 1/4 stater (attributed to the Durotriges by Allen: Belgic Dynasties, Arch XC (1944)p.36).

(Possibly from Pilsdon Pen, ST 40 SW 9; Lewesdon Hill, ST 40 SW 12; or Waddon Hill, ST 40 SW 15). <1>

Information as above. A bronze coin of Claudius has been found on the same site. <2>
