'It is formed of two circular section twisted rods with two interwoven finer strands of twisted metal. Perhaps the most distinctive features are the spade shaped termnals, and these suggest a Viking origin for the piece (H.Cool, personal comment). The tenth century saw many instances of 'the host' terrorising the coast in the Christchurch area, and the discovery of this piece in such a location is a rare, but not unexpected occurrence.'
