Monument record MDO44569 - Possible Iron Age/Roman settlement, Luton Farm, Tarrant Rawston

Please read our .

Summary

Ditched linear and curvilinear features are visible as cropmarks to the west of Luton Farm, Tarrant Rawston, on aerial photographs. The features form a series of small conjoined rectilinear enclosures, alongside part of a possible trackway or field boundary. The features overlie part of an extensive later prehistoric field system of possible Bronze Age to Iron Age date (MDO5108) and may be related, although they are potentially later in origin, possibly closer to Iron Age/Roman in date, perhaps representing a small settlement site. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description

Ditched linear and curvilinear features are visible as cropmarks to the west of Luton Farm, Tarrant Rawston, on aerial photographs [1]. The features form a series of small conjoined rectilinear enclosures over 90m by 70m overall extent. A banked and ditched linear feature over 100m long to the east may be part of a possible trackway or field boundary associated with these. A further zig zag linear ditch to the northeast may also be an associated field boundary.
