Full Description

A possible Bronze Age bowl barrow listed by Grinsell as such, although Grinsell himself had his doubts, suggesting that the mound may in fact represent upcast spoil from quarrying. Ordnance Survey field investigation noted that the feature in question, marked as a mound on the 1902 edition of the Ordnance Survey 6" map, is now visible as a T-shaped hollow(!). More recently, traces of a later prehistoric enclosure (SU 01 SW 48) have been discovered in the same field, and it has been suggested that the mound may be associated with this settlement. The same suggestion has been made for bowl barrow SU 01 SW 9.
