Summary

A trackway is visible as an earthwork in fields to the east of Pimperne on an aerial photograph dated 1944. The trackway runs eastwards along the field boundary edges from Hyde Farm towards a roofless structure shown on the same aerial photograph. The features are not shown on any historic mapping, suggesting a probable late 19th century to early 20th century origin. Whether military or agricultural in nature is not certain. The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description

A trackway is visible as an earthwork in fields to the east of Pimperne on an aerial photograph dated 1944 [1]. The trackway runs eastwards along the field boundary edges from Hyde Farm towards a roofless structure shown on the same aerial photograph. The features are not shown on any historic mapping, suggesting a probable late 19th century to early 20th century origin. Whether military or agricultural in nature is not certain. The feature is still visible on Google Earth imagery, although may have altered course slightly to run along the south side of the easternmost field. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
