Full Description
"Stirchel" occurs as a landmark in a charter of King Edwy of Wessex, AD 956 (3), granting land to the nunnery at Shaftesbury. It applies to the stream which forms the west boundary of Compton Abbas. <1> <3>
The name 'Stirchel' is not known locally, and no further information is available. <4>
