Summary

Ditched and banked linear and curvilinear features are visible as cropmarks towards the northern end of Tarrant Rushton Airfield on aerial photographs. The features appear to comprise partial rectilinear and curvilinear enclosures and associated field boundaries and/or trackways, thought likely to represent a small settlement and associated field system of probable later prehistoric, most likely Iron Age to Roman, date. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description

Ditched and banked linear and curvilinear features are visible as cropmarks towards the northern end of Tarrant Rushton Airfield on aerial photographs [1, 2]. The features appear to comprise partial rectilinear and curvilinear enclosures and associated field boundaries and/or trackways. Several probable pits are also viaible central to the group of features, although whether these are contemporary is not certain. The features are thought likely to represent a small settlement and associated field system of probable later prehistoric, most likely Iron Age to Roman, date. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
