Summary

A Medieval or Post Medieval quarry is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs taken in 1953, but has subsequently been ploughed level. The site comprises an oval quarry that measures a maximum of 24m long by up to 17m wide and is orientated roughly east / west. The quarry was probably dug for chalk, which is marked on the geology map at this location.

Full Description

A Medieval or Post Medieval quarry, which was probably dug for chalk, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs, but has subsequently been ploughed level. The site is centred at ST 9482 1113 and comprises an oval quarry that measures a maximum of 24m long by up to 17m wide and is orientated roughly east / west.

The quarry was probably dug for chalk, which is marked on the geology map at this location <4>. The quarry is full of scrub vegetation on aerial photographs taken in 1953 <2, 3> but has been ploughed level on aerial photographs taken in 1988. <5>
