Monument record MDO44374 - Mound on Stubhampton Down, Tarrant Gunville

The site is grass covered and on land which falls sharply to the north. The area has been cleared of trees and shrub, but no trace of a barrow was seen. The site is an unlikely one for a long barrow. <2>

The alleged long barrow, noted by Crawford <1>, appears to be a raised section of a strong natural scarp, at ST 90641417, which extends for about 250m along the steep southwest side of a combe. This natural feature is emphasised under conditions of low lighting. Not visible on OS air photograph. <3>
