Summary

A concentration of curvilinear ditched features are visible as cropmarks in a field to the northeast of Tarrant Rawston on aerial photographs dated 1995 and 2006 . The features appear to form a possible curvilinear enclosure, with additional smaller rectilinear enclosures adjoining on its southeast side. The features may form part of a wider later prehistoric field system, possibly of Iron Age to Roman period date. The feature is recorded in the National Monuments Record (NRHE Hob UID 1622752). A Celtic field system is recorded to the southeast and overlapping these features in the National Monuments Record (NRHE Hob UID 209464) and the features may be associated with this.The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description

A later prehistoric multi-ditched curvilinear and rectilinear enclosure was recorded as cropmarks on 2015 Historic England oblique aerial photographs and on 2017 Google Earth vertical aerial photographs. It extends over an area measuring 180m by 150m. A curving ditched boundary, parallel to the north side of the enclosure forms funnel shaped area between the multi-ditched enclosure and two further rectilinear enclosures. The north side of this funnel arrangement partly encloses a Bronze Age round barrow (NRHE 209389).
It is centred at ST 9487 0710. <1>
