‘4. Field Systems. The air photographs clearly indicate the area has been subject to severe degradation by modern arable farming, with only the deeper pits, ditches, etc. surviving to form soil and crop marks. It is quite possible that traces of former fields could have been largely ploughed-out in recent decades. Only to the west of Weatherby Castle did parchmarks of a field system appear on the available air cover (Fig. 2, FS1).’
