Full Description

ST 915 040 (GCE) A rapid examination of air photography suggests the presence of lynchets, enclosures and trackways, possibly of Prehistoric or Roman date, visible as cropmarks on the hillside southeast of Keynston Dairy House. <1>

The features described above include two rectilinear ditched enclosures each measuring about 50m by 50m. One is at ST 9154 0413 and the other at ST 9178 0388. These were recorded as cropmarks on Historic England aerial photographs in 2015.

The trackways referred to above comprise a triple ditched feature crossed by ditches of a different phase at ST 9141 0428 - recorded on the 1989 photos in source <1.1>. <2>

An irregular curvilinear ditch is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs dated 2000 <3-4>. It is the potential site of a later prehistoric enclosure or trackway/field boundary and was digitally plotted from aerial photographs during the Dorset Middle Stour Catchment AI&M Project.
