‘Ten ring ditches were noted (Fig. 2, R1-R10). R1 is located in the berm between the inner and outer ramparts of Weatherby Castle. It is possible that this represents the drip gulley of a structure; however, the continuous nature of the ditch tends to argue against this, and an interpretation as a barrow seems most likely. (Note the incidence of round barrows within the defences of other Wessex hillforts, eg Scratchbury, Whitesheet Hill and Maiden Castle.’
