Summary

A probable Bronze Age round barrow is visible as a soilmark on aerial photographs. The site is defined by a single ring ditch with a large break to the north which nearly encloses a circular area measuring circa 23m in diameter. Total diameter is circa 28m. The size and shape of the enclosure suggest that it is the plough levelled remains of a Bronze Age round barrow. There is no sign of any barrow mound or other internal feature such as a funerary deposit.

Full Description

A possible Bronze Age round barrow is visible as a soilmark on aerial photographs. The site is centred at ST 9374 0962 and is defined by a single ring ditch with a large break to the north which nearly encloses a circular area measuring circa 23m in diameter.

The size and shape of the enclosure suggest that it is the plough levelled remains of a Bronze Age round barrow, several of which are known in this area. There is no sign of any barrow mound or other internal feature such as a funerary deposit. <2, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3>

A probable Bronze Age barrow is visible c 183m to the southwest of Dairy Farm, Tarrant Launceston, as a partial circular annular cropmark c28m in diameter on an aerial photograph dated 1976 <1>. The northwest side of the feature is not visible, possibly ploughed out. The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AI&M project.
