Summary

A possible Bronze Age round barrow is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs. The site is defined by an incomplete ring-ditch which has a large break to the north-west and partially encloses an area measuring 27m in diameter. Its shape and size suggest that it is probably the plough levelled remains of a Bronze Age round barrow. There is no sign of any barrow mound or other internal feature such as a funerary deposit. The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AI&M project.

Full Description

A possible Bronze Age round barrow is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs. The site is centred at ST 9369 0982 and is defined by an incomplete ring-ditch which has a large break to the north-west and partially encloses an area measuring 27m in diameter. Its shape and size suggest that it is probably the plough levelled remains of a Bronze Age round barrow, several of which are known in this area. There is no sign of any barrow mound or other internal feature such as a funerary deposit. <1>

A probable Bronze Age barrow is visible c 170m to the west of Dairy Farm, Tarrant Launceston, as a partial circular annular cropmark c26m in diameter on an aerial photograph dated 1976 <1>. The feature is visble as a partial ring ditch, cut by a later field boundary on its northwest side. A further segment of the northeast side of the feature is visible beyond the field boundary, the northwest side may be ploughed out. The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AI&M project.
