Full Description

Part of the Roman road from Badbury Rings to Kingston Deverill (Linear 511) is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. The site comprises a linear arrangement of four banks or stretches of compacted ground that extend roughly NNW / SSE, for a combined length of 580m. They measure a maximum of 11m wide but narrow to the south. They follow the course of the roman road as marked by the Ordnance Survey and are aligned on other identified sections of the road (eg ST 90 NW 150). The route between these two sections is reflected in the pattern of extant field boundaries. <1-2>
