Full Description

In the south-west corner of the church-yard is part of the octagonal base of a probable 14th century cross, of Ham Hill stone, 38 inches in diameter. (1)

The octagonal slab, situated at ST 57390781, is 0.1m thick and has been split laterally and the newly exposed side is upper-most, with the chamfered and weather-worn side downwards; there is no cavity to take a cross shaft. It is doubtful if this is the remains of a cross; it is more probably the remains of an octagonal pillar-base from the nave of the church before
restoration. (2)

No change to field report of 2 6 55. (3)
