Full Description
A cluster of dark patches within a worked woodland area that are possibly Post Medieval charcoal burning platforms. Seen as soil marks on 2007 aerial photography. <1>
(ST 8987 1524). It is disputable whether these marks are the product of burning following woodland clearance rather then being caused by charcoal production. The area in question appears wooded in a 1927 OS map.
<1> 06-JUN-2007, NMR ST 8915/10 (24633/01) (Aerial Photograph). SDO17887.
<2> National Record of the Historic Environment, 1518365 (Digital archive). SDO14739.
