Full Description
A cluster of dark patches appearing as soil marks that could represent Post Medieval charcoal burning platforms. Seen in 2007 aerial photography. <1>
(ST 8932 1650). It is also possible that the patches represent scrubb clearance bonfires; they have a variety of shapes and sizes and seem to respect the shape of the modern field layout. However, old OS mapping suggests that the field in question has been clear of woodland since 1887 a long enough period for bonfires to have since disappeared therefore it is more likely that the marks are charcoal burning remnants.
