Full Description

"A cross formerly stood in the centre of the villlage, opposite the entrance to the churchyard, and a tree growing near the site is still known as the "cross tree". <2>

The base of the village cross was "in the roadway" in 1910, and what was thought to be the head of the cross had been found during a restoration of the church in 1890, and built into the church porch. <3>

ST 83480457. The socket stone is set in the road and is now almost level with the road surface. It is consequently in very poor condition but appears to be of the common 14th/15th century type, 0.9m. square with chamfered top corners so that the top has an octagonal plan. The mortise for the shaft is now a circular basin 0.25m. in diameter and 0.1m. deep. There is nothing in the church porch that resembles the head of a cross. <4>
